Four Monroe County fire departments are sending help downstate to assist with recovery efforts following superstorm Sandy.

The Rochester Fire Department says that Chili Deputy Fire Marshall Dave Saur, Pittsford Fire Marshall Kelly Cline, Gates Fire Prevention Officer Joe Manuse, and Lieutenant Fire Safety Officer Ted Kuppinger of the Rochester Fire Department are all headed downstate to assist with the aftermath of Sandy.

Officials say they will join a team of about 20 other firefighters from across the state that will help town officials, and property owners in Suffolk County.

Teams will assess damaged buildings and help town officials manage their resources in the recovery effort.

Officials say the assessments made by the firefighters will be used to refine building codes so that structures will better able to better withstand future natural disasters.
