Many of you are all familiar with Wegman's prepared foods Market Cafe'. But what about the Market Cafe' Amore? That is a new concept that Wegmans is planning to open in its new East Avenue store.
Wegmans says the restaurant will be a full service, sit down traditional Italian restaurant. We wanted to know what the competition across the street - Ristorante Lucano - thought about the new venture.
On one side of Ristorante Lucano - a book club is meeting and eating. On the other side - good friends Karen and Priscilla are enjoying one of their regular get togethers. And everyone is loving what is on their plate - or about to be on their plate.
"I'm going to order what I order every time I come here. Which is the veal with Cognac sauce," said Karen Frederico
For 12 years Joann Formoso and her husband have been serving authentic Italian food in their cozy Italian restaurant on East Avenue.
"When our customers come in we know what they like to eat, what they like to drink, where they like to sit," said Joann Formoso
And her customers, like Karen, will tell you what Lucano's serves - can't be beat.
"It is exceptional food and service and one of the best restaurants in the city."
But competition is setting up across the street. Wegmans is opening up a new store in late spring or early summer and inside will be a full service Italian restaurant that will get a lot of attention.
Formoso believes it will also be authentic because she says people from Wegmans have been coming to sample her dishes. And we know Wegmans does its research before launching new projects. Still - Joann Formoso
"They don't have the same chef to prepare the same dish,” said Joann Formoso
Her customers agree. And whey they can see Wegmans restaurant drawing in people, right now they don't believe it will put an end to nights like this.
"It may have some impact at the beginning, but I think they will weather it very well,” said Priscilla Imburgia
While the Italian restaurant is a new concept for Wegmans, but restaurants are not. It already operates the Food Bar restaurant in Pittsford and across the street the Next Door Bar and Grill.
The new store is slated to open in May or June of next year.
