November is national Lung Cancer Awareness Month and in the Rochester area, it’s the number one killer among all types of cancer.
Friday morning, area leaders came together to raise awareness for the issue, to help people protect themselves from the highly preventable disease and to encourage support throughout the community.
Peg Collins, Vice President of Education and Research at the American Lung Association said, “Our message this month, during National Lung Cancer Awareness Month, is no one deserves to die from lung cancer."
Cancer has become the leading cause of death in Monroe County and the most cancer deaths come from lung cancer. More than 400 local residents die from that each year and another 500 are diagnosed.
