Calling hours were held on Saturday at the Paul Harris Funeral Home on King's Highway in Irondequoit for Rochester boxing legend Carmen Basilio.
Basilio dedicated his life to the sport, his fans and the entire community. He was a world champion and boxing hall of famer. His family told News10NBC that he will be remembered as not only a legend but also an honest and loving man.
"He was very, very humble," says Mike Fereri, Basilio's son-in-law. "This is a guy, that when he was introduced in the ring at a fight, would actually come out of the ring with tears in his eyes. He would not believe that people thought that much of him. That they would applaud and cheer him like they did."
Basilio died last week from complications due to pneumonia, he was 85-years-old.
