It's a popular spot on East Avenue and now it's reopening its doors with a new look and name. The Strathallan Hotel will now be called Strathallan, a Double Tree by Hilton. But that's just the beginning of the changes.
For almost the last year, News10NBC has been watching as the building and the landscape changed around the Strathallan, wondering when it would open and what it would look like inside.
The new Strathallan by Double Tree has gone clean and modern. From the front desk, to the restaurant and bar called "Char", to the ultra modern artwork., nothing in this building went untouched.
There is a pool area which the hotel didn't have before. There's a fitness area open from 5am to 10pm.
And nine floors of completely renovated spaces.
A typical room has one bedroom, one bathroom and a beautiful open living space. There are also a number of two bedroom and two bathrooms as well. Some of the rooms have stunning views of Rochester and private patios.
While the rooms aren't open yet, the restaurant and bar has been open since Election Day and there has been quite a buzz ever since.
Jay Rettberg, general manager said, “The property has needed some love for quite a while, so it's been exciting. And it's really wonderful that the entire neighborhood and community is excited as well. It's like their baby's growing up in front of them and the city is getting something that the city really needs, deserves and we just can't wait.”
Officials from Double Tree were checking out the Strathallan on Tuesday. The owner David Christa said they were extremely pleased and impressed by how it looked.
In every room, there are large framed prints and it's all local scenery. The large sculpture in the lobby area is also by a local artist.
The rooms are available starting this Thursday.
