A Irondequoit man is accused of robbing women police say he met online and police are saying this isn't the first time he has attacked women he's met on social media websites.
25-year-old Michael Chess is charged with first degree attempted robbery, first degree robbery and fourth degree grand larceny. Police say it all started with the click of a mouse.
Michael Chess was awaiting trial for other charges stemming from last year. It wasn't until a few weeks ago that police started investigating other attacks throughout the area when they finally linked him..
It was October 2011, when Chess was charged with three counts of rape. Police say he met those three women online and forced them to have sexual relations..
Fast forward a year later, police say Chess met other women on social media websites. and then robbed them. They say it happened in northwest side of the city about two weeks ago. So far, there are two victims involved in the case.
Police say they want people to be more aware of who they are meeting online.
Sgt. Justin Collins, Rochester Police Department, said, “Just to be cautious whenever you're on these social networking sites. Whether it's dating or friends, you don't always know who you're dealing with. If you're going to meet people make sure you meet with a group of people perhaps instead of meeting them one on one.”
Police say they are expecting to press even more charged against Michael Chess. They strongly believe there are more victims out there. They're asking anyone who feels they were attacked to come forward and call 911.
