Christmas is just a little over a month away and the people at Stokoe Farms in Scottsville were out Wednesday helping to make the holidays a little bit brighter for our troops.

Workers were packing and getting ready to ship real Christmas trees that will go to military personnel serving overseas.

Stokoe Farms will be sending 48 trees through the U.S. Postal Service to bases in Afghanistan, Kuwait, Korea, Germany, Gitmo and Air Craft carriers all over the world.

Those involved talked about the importance of helping our troops while they're away from home this holiday season.

Suzanne Stokoe said, “We feel that it's very important to be able to support our troops, show them we care, and hopefully give them a little piece of home and remembrance of Christmas when they're away from their family in far away and dangerous places. So we just want to be able to give back to them.”

Local students and senior citizens provided handmade ornaments, cards and candy that will all be shipped with the trees.
