As shoppers begin searching for those big Friday deals, mall all across the area are beefing up security.

It's one of the busiest shopping days of the year. Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to hit the malls on Black Friday. Before Thanksgiving dinner even cools off, many shoppers will begin lining up outside major retailers.

We have heard the Black Friday stories.

Emily Beach said, “It was right around Christmas and I was like 7 and a little girl was wrestling me for a headband so that was probably the worst experience I've had.”

But it seems people can't stay away from the big deals. In order to avoid any incidents this year, local malls are taking steps to monitor big crowds for the big day.

Mike Kauffman, General Manager, said, “We're all really commited to making sure the public stay safe during the holiday season.”

Eastview Mall has already beefed up security for the holiday weekend. Bringing in extra help from the Ontario County Sheriff's Office.

David Cirencione, Ontario County Sheriff's Office, said, “We will have a substantial increase police presence here on Friday.”

Sergeant David Cirencoine says they will be working closely with mall security and keeping an eye out for suspicious activity inside and out.

Sgt. Cirencoine said, “This is to make people feel safe up here so that they have a safe and enjoyable holiday season here at the mall.”

The police presence will not only be felt on foot. The eye in the sky will also be watching. Sergeant Cirencoine says when the crowds come in, so does the possibility for crime. Mall officials say this is the main reason why everyone needs to be on the same page.

Kauffman said, “A lot of it is man power and a lot of it is just having a plan in place to make sure it's a smooth day.”

More than 50 stores will open their doors at midnight Thursday night and the mall will close down around 10:00pm on Friday night. Also sheriff's deputies will be there to take shoppers to their cars if they feel uneasy about taking their merchandise out in the dark. All you have to do is go to the mall security office.
