The North Greece Fire Department held a special fundraiser on Sunday to help victims of Superstorm Sandy.
Firefighters collected food and other supplies at the North Greece fire training facility on Latta Road. North Greece Fire Chief Patrick Meyers tells News10NBC four teams of volunteers from his department were sent to help out after the storm and they saw the destruction first hand. They knew more needed to be done for those affected, especially now during the holiday season.
"The crews that we had sent down saw such destruction that it would be just the thing to do around the holiday time," says Meyers. "To see if we could make it better for them and just take the edge off while they're trying to get back on their feet and rebuild down there."
Meyers tells News10NBC a few other fire districts as well as the Greece School District and the Town of Greece have all come together to provide relief items for storm victims.
