Jury selection to begin in Brighton murder trial

Jury selection will begin Monday morning in the trial of a Brighton man who admitted to shooting his former roommate.

Maxwell Wyant, 23, is charged with second-degree murder last February in the shooting death of 21-year-old CJ Schoen.

Investigators believe the shooting was the result of a dispute over property at a home on Hartfeld Drive in Brighton.

According to court documents, Wyant told police, “It was self defense. I was protecting myself from that devil."

Jury selection begins at 9:30 a.m.
