An animal rescue organization is looking for anyone who knows who put a dog in a bag, tied it up and left it in the bathroom of a Pittsford pet store.
The dog, named "Pierre" by its rescuers, is a French Bulldog. It has severe health problems including malnourishment, decayed teeth, missing fur and dehydration.
The rescue organization, GRASP (Greece residents assisting stray pets) says the dog was left in a bathroom of the PETCO on Monroe Avenue in Pittsford Sunday afternoon. Pierre was left in a bag that was tied at the top. A store worker found the dog sometime in the afternoon and got Pierre to an animal hospital.
The dog is now with a foster owner.
GRASP hopes that people recognize Pierre and then alert police about its owner.
Sue Zukoski, foster owner for Pierre, said, "I want Pierre to find a wonderful home. And I want the community rallying around him, taking care of him. It takes a village to raise a child. I guess it does a dog too."
Karla Barkley, GRASP, said, "I'd like to see the person prosecuted. I'd like to see the community be aware that these things can happen. You hear about these stories but you don't realize it until you physically have to do this. "
