Congresswoman Louise Slaughter, who was re-elected in November to another term in Congress, was re-elected Thursday to serve as the top democratic member of the House Committee on Rules.

The congresswoman was nominated by democratic leader Nancy Pelosi and unanimously approved by her colleagues in the democratic caucus.

The House Committee on Rules is one of the oldest standing committees in the House, having been formally constituted on April 2, 1789. Slaughter served as the committee's first chairwoman from 2007 to 2011.
