A joyful homecoming just in time for the holidays. Seven local soldiers are back home with their families Wednesday morning.
The soldiers are from the New York Army National Guard and they arrived around 4 a.m. at the armory on Patriot Way near the airport.
The soldiers were deployed to Kuwait to help with security missions and administrative duties.
News10NBC asked Special Katherine Michaloski of Fairport what she was most looking forward to. She said, “I am going to sleep in a real bed and maybe a couple of days from now a real breakfast with pancakes, coffee, the whole nine yards. I’m so excited, none of this hall food.”
Another thing Specialist Michaloski wants to do is take a shower in a real bathroom. She tells News10NBC she wants a big, clean tub that doesn’t smell like mothballs – something a lot of people may take for granted.
A total of 150 National Guard troops are returning Wednesday today to Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse, Latham and New York City.
