A BOCES employee was killed Friday morning in a crash in East Rochester that sheriff's deputies say was caused by a wrong way driver. It happened just before 8:00am at North Washington Street and Linden Avenue.

Sheriff's deputies say the driver who was killed was 53-year-old John Marcaitis of Fairport. He was on his way to work at the time.

The sheriff's deputies say the driver of the pickup truck was headed north on Washington Street. For some reason, he crossed over the double yellow lines and continued northbound, even though he was now in the southbound lane.
Deputies say 47-year-old Donald Love ran the red light and rammed into the SUV in the intersection. The driver of the SUV, John Marcaitis, was pronounced dead at Strong Hospital.

News10NBC confirmed with the BOCES superintendent that Marcaitis, who lived in Fairport, worked at a BOCES satellite office on Linden Avenue. Sheriff's Deputies closed the intersection for several hours while an accident reconstruction team did its work.

Cpl. John Helfer, Monroe County Sheriff's Office, said, “The male driver of the black pickup truck was northbound on Washington. He was driving in the southbound lane at that time when he struck the westbound SUV. Obviously, the speed will be determined. Three cars involved total. As the male driver of the pickup went through the intersection, he clipped the front end of a westbound vehicle that was turning left, and then T-boned the male driver of the SUV.”
The driver of the pickup that struck the SUV is identified as 47-year-old Donald Love of Hilton. The sheriff says it appears that he may have been traveling at a high rate of speed.

Sheriff's Deputies are still looking into why he was driving in the wrong lane and why he didn't slow down through intersection. They say there were no skid marks.

Deputies also tell News10NBC that Love is facing open container, failure to yield at intersection, failure to keep right, unreasonable speed, and pass red light charges.

Marcaitis worked as a financial software support technician in the BOCES Technology Services Department. The BOCES superintendent say their thoughts and prayers are with the Marcaitis family.
