Saturday, December 15, 2012 was declared “Pirate Toy Fund Day” in Staten Island. The proclamation was made by State Island Borough President James Molinari after the organization delivered more than 2,000 toys to children affected by Hurricane Sandy this weekend.

Pirate Toy Fund Executive Director Gary Smith – better known as Gary the Happy Pirate said, "This honor is shared with the Rochester, NY community who went that extra mile this year and donated all these toys. We couldn't have done it without them. We should all be proud.”

The Pirate Toy Fund is a nonprofit organization that collects and distributes toys year-round to children in need in the Rochester area. The annual News10NBC Pirate Toy Fund Drive collected more than 14,000 toys this year – 2,000 of those went to children impacted by the hurricane.
