Wednesday night the community came together again to honor the firefighters who were killed in Webster Monday morning.
Mike Chiapperini and Tomasz Kaczowka were the fallen firefighters. Joseph Hofstetter and Theodore Scardino were also shot and are still recovering in the hospital.
The snow couldn't keep this group away. Dozens of Webster community members came together at Barry's Old School Irish Pub and Bakery to honor those injured and killed Christmas Eve morning.
“We have so many wonderful people come in their door everyday and a lot of times they happen to be people who put their life on the line for our community everyday and we thought this show of support would be a way to let everyone affected know we love them, appreciate them and are thinking about them,” said Organizer Danny Barry.
So, side by side with heavy hearts this group said thank you to those who put their lives on the line everyday, and paid tribute to the two men who made the ultimate sacrifice.
“We just wanted to show support for the firefighters and their families and for all of them. Everyday they put their lives at risk and this is the least we can do to come out here and show our support,” said one person who attended the vigil.
The vigil ended with the fireman's prayer, the last line of which has a new meaning for this community,
“If by your will I have to lose my life, please bless with your protecting hand my children and my wife.”
