Funeral services will be held Saturday for a long time pastor and civil rights leader in our area. Reverend Dr. Charles Thurman died after an illness on Friday.
For 38 years, he was the pastor of Second Baptist Church in Mumford, New York. Reverend Thurman was acting dean of the Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School's Black Studies program and active with United Church Ministries.
He was well respected and an eloquent speaker, many times a voice for those who felt they had no voice.
Calling hours will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Second Baptist Church and the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Aenon Baptist Church in Rochester.
Reverend Thurman was 65 years old.
