Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks wrote a letter to President Obama Friday in support of awarding the Presidential Medal of Freedom to the fallen and injured West Webster firefighters and off-duty Greece Police officer who were involved in an ambushed attack on Christmas Eve.

A petition to honor the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Lt. Mike Chiapperini and Tomasz Kaczowka, who were shot and killed responding to a fire on Christmas Eve, along with Theodore Scardino and Joseph Hofstetter, who were both seriously injured that day, has reached its goal of 25,000 signatures. A petition for off-duty Greece Police officer, John Ritter, is still collecting signatures.
