Another charity event was held Sunday night to benefit the families of the two West Webster firefighters who were shot and killed on Christmas Eve.
The benefit was held at the Firehouse Saloon on Clinton Avenue in Rochester.
Nine of Rochester's premiere bands all agreed to donate their time and talent in support of fallen firefighters Mike Chiapperini and Tomasz Kaczowka and their loved ones.
This event was in the works just hours after the tragedy happened. It all started with a few bands, and as soon as word got out, it turned into a huge benefit concert.
The concert kicked off at around 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
GigLink, a website that connects many bands to events, partnered up with the Firehouse Saloon to launch this fundraiser.
Hundreds of people came to show their support. They even set up a poster board where people left their well-wishes. The poster will be donated to the West Webster Fire Department.
Along with local band performances, there were also dozens of local businesses that donated food and raffle items.
Organizers told News10NBC they expected a huge crowd, but nothing like this.
“Completely overwhelmed. I can't even begin to explain how heart-warmed I am to see our community come together, to have a really great time together and start the healing process and also to support our local service men and women. It's just, I'm so completely touched,” said Nicole Maitland, GigLink event coordinator.
All proceeds will go to the four families affected by the Christmas Eve tragedy. The concert will continue until 11:30 p.m. Sunday night.
