Notre Dame High senior Riley Norton has been pushing herself in school since the 6th grade. By junior high, she told her parents she had set a goal for herself.
Riley Norton, Scholar Athlete of the Week, said, “I wanted to be in the top 10. That was my goal. It's important I'm in it, but I need to keep pushing but 5th is pretty good.”
She carries a 96 average and carries several APs. She is also president to the student senate.
Norton said, “I like being able to listen to what others want someone has to do it, I like being the leader and taking charge.”
Riley also takes charge on the court. She is captain for both volleyball and basketball and also plays tennis. She says basketball is in her blood.
Norton said, “It comes naturally to me, since the 2nd grade. You can work with other teammates to get the ball, it's not a solo sport you have to count on other people.”
Riley hopes to purse a career as social worker and is considering Mercyhurst, St. Bonaventure and Daemon College. She knows the next step is a big one, but she's ready.
Riley said, “I'm nervous for college but I'm excited to go and not be in Batavia any more and go off on my own.”
