Several school districts in the Buffalo area are requiring children to wear a pedometer to track the physical activity of students. WGRZ, our affiliate in Buffalo, says its part of a federal program and parents are worried it is invading their child's privacy.
The data collected throughout the school year will be sent to the federal government and students are also asked to keep a log of their activity. Each school district can choose how the program works.
Some are making the pedometers part of the student's grade and refusing to wear one means a zero.
