A very serious infection that took the life of a 16-year-old hockey player from Irondequoit in 2011 is now at the center of a new study.
Rochester Clinical Research in Irondequoit is conducting the study on a new Meningitis B vaccine. It is also being conducted in 12 countries around the world. Rochester Clinical Research is working together with the Tyler Putnam Foundation.
Tyler Putnam died suddenly from the bacterial meningitis back in 2011, despite having received two doses of a licensed meningitis vaccine. Current vaccines do not provide protection against the B strain.
