The City of Batavia Fire Department will receive more than $60,000 in federal funding to train new firefighters and upgrade equipment for first responders. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand made the announcement Thursday.
"This grant will assist in training new recruit firefighters replacing several retired personnel within the past year and anticipated retirements in 2013," said Jim Maxwell, City of Batavia Fire Department Fire Chief. "It will also increase our capabilities with extrication and technical rescue incidents and provide for training with this new equipment."
The City of Batavia Fire Department provides fire and emergency response services to more than 16,000 residents.
