Irondequoit firefighters pulled a man from his burning house on Tuesday afternoon.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. on Tamarack Drive off Culver Road.

Several Irondequoit fire districts responded. Neighbors said they helped firefighters get to the man, who was trapped inside the smoke-filled house. Police say he was conscious and talking as paramedics put him in a waiting ambulance.

Keith Collins, who witnessed the fire, said, "We just busted some windows out, got the front door open as the fire department arrived and they got him out."

The victim was taken to the hospital. He's not been identified yet and the cause is unknown.

News10NBC has learned the Rochester firefighters who had been up at Irondequoit Bay looking for spots to do ice training exercises Wednesday saw the fire from the truck and were one of the first crews to arrive.
