Clean up crews have been clearing out a backyard in Webster all morning long after an 18-wheeler flipped off of Route 104 and ended up in that yard early Thursday morning.
Officials say the truck driver was on Route 104 near Route 250 at around 12:15 a.m. News10NBC is told that driver fell asleep and that's when the semi went off the road, down an embankment and ended up in a backyard on Kircher Park.
This is the third time in three years a vehicle has flipped off Route 104 in that area. Luckily no one was hurt. The tractor trailer was pretty heavily damaged and the roof was torn open. That truck was full of thousands of mason jars that ended up all over the yard.
We spoke with Tom Welsher, the man who lives in that home. He told us what it was like to be awakened by the crash. “I heard this loud noise and I thought my son was doing something crazy downstairs, so I said 'Nicky, what's going on?' and I heard him yelling 'Call 911' and he ran out and I got dressed and I came out and he was pulling the guy out of the top of the truck."
The driver of the truck escaped serious injury. Welsher said he seemed to be in shock after the crash but luckily he was not hurt.
