It's considered one of the biggest sporting events of the year and for many it means lots of fun and lots of food.

Super Bowl XLVII is almost underway and by now many football fans are all stocked up on game-winning snacks. The evidence was seen at many supermarkets throughout the area all day on Sunday.

News10NBC stopped by the Wegmans in Pittsford to talk to some last minute Super Bowl shoppers.

If you wanted to do your simple weekly shopping, Super Bowl Sunday was not the day to do it. Several supermarkets in our area were jam-packed. Some stores have been full since Saturday.

The Wegmans in Pittsford was non-stop with traffic on Sunday. Many shoppers said it took them quite some time to find parking or even a shopping cart.

Hundreds of people stocked up on several Super Bowl favorites.

News10NBC is told the store was ready for the big rush. They did not run out of any items.

This is one of the busiest shopping days of the year for the store, next to Thanksgiving. Many families tried to make the trip to the supermarket super-fun.

“Come out for some pizza and wings and we tried the hors d'oeuvres thing, so we got some wings and mozzarella sticks. Letting them pick what they want to watch the game with,” said shopper Suzannah Hacker.

“We're all throwing together some food. We're going to make some chili and some dips and that's going to be it,” said another shopper Barb Fowler.

Superbowl XLVII starts at 6:30 p.m. Sunday night.
