A local non-profit organization is expanding and now they're going to be featured on The Today Show.
Executive Director Vickie Durfee and Director Lisa Miller created an organization called Full Circle Home in 2007. It supports the women in the lives of service members overseas. This national exposure is going to put them and all of Rochester on the map.
What do Durfee and Miller do at Full Circle Home? In a nutshell, they arrange gift boxes to be sent on behalf of service members to their loved ones back home. They go to military wives, mothers, sisters and fiancés to comfort them during the separation.
In the past year, the organization has grown. Being on The Today Show means the possibilities are now endless for this local non-profit.
It's amazing how far this organization once based out of Vickie Durfee's home in Mendon has come. “Since 2007, we have sent out 6,500 boxes and in most of those boxes are 12 gifts. So that's an incredible amount of wrapping to do.”
Full Circle Home offers a twist on the typical care packages sent to troops. The care packages these women prepare go to their loved ones back home on Christmas and Mother's Day.
We introduced you to Full Circle Home in 2010 and we followed them as they delivered boxes full of pampering products to women in Rochester but it’s their latest venture to the White House that changed the course of this organization. “Michelle Obama on one side and Dr. Jill Biden on the other side and we wrapped for a couple hours with them.”
These two incredible women have united families around the world. They've provided our service men and women with an opportunity that never existed before and now they will be sharing that message on national television.
Full Circle Home will appear on The Today Show on Thursday.
