On Tuesday the Rochester Police Department opened it's doors at the Public Safety Building Downtown, inviting people to come in for lunch.
It was part of the Department's Black Heritage Month celebration.
There was jazz music provided by Northeast Funk, a local band that has retired Police Officer Glenn Beard on bass.
Lunch was provided by Unkl Moes BBQ and Catering. There was everything from barbeque ribs and turkey, to greens and macaroni and cheese.
Rochester Police Chief James Sheppard says they want people to realize officers are people too and this is one way to reach out and engage the community on a positive note.
“So often they come to the Public Safety Building paying bail or going to jail. They can come in and enjoy eating with us, engaging with us, because its important to have positive relationships established,” said Chief Sheppard.
This is the second year the Rochester Police Department has hosted this luncheon.
