Police say the body found in Tryon Park on Wednesday is that of a 73-year-old woman. The park is located off of North Winton Road between Browncroft and Empire Boulevards.
RIT officials confirm the victim, Edline Chun of Rochester, was an adjunct professor in the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences.
Right now, a person of interest is in custody and charges are expected soon.
Investigators say Chun was shot to death and her body was dumped at Tryon Park. We’re told the motive may have been robbery. Her car was stolen and police don't believe there was a relationship between Chun and the person of interest. The investigation goes back at least a week.
Rochester Police Chief James Sheppard said, “I’ll say we do believe she was targeted but at this point in time we're not going to divulge any info relative to our investigation that pertains to that. If there is someone who may be a relative of hers or possibly a friend and they can give us additional info - we appreciate them reaching out to us as well
Police are still trying to contact family.
Statement from RIT Provost Jeremy Haefner: “The entire Rochester Institute of Technology community is shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the death of Edline Chun. She was a well-respected and beloved faculty member who taught in the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences for almost two decades. Her colleagues in the School of Media Sciences describe her as someone who 'always went above and beyond to serve the students and the school with passion, integrity and the utmost class.' We extend our deepest sympathies to her family and friends. RIT faculty leaders from the college met with students earlier today to tell them of the news, and we are making counselors available to faculty, staff or students. "
