Too much calcium appears to raise the risk of death among women.
Experts recommend calcium supplements for women to help preserve bone health and prevent osteoporosis. But a new study of 61,000 women found those who consumed high amounts of calcium had the highest rates of death from any cause and especially cardiovascular disease.
Researchers say to prevent fractures, supplements should only be advised for those with low levels of dietary calcium and are not necessary for those already getting enough from their diet.
