The excitement is building for Pittsford’s Abby Wambach and the Western New York Flash. The schedule is out and individual game tickets should go on sale within the next two weeks.
The new National Women's Soccer League released it's 22-game schedule for all eight teams including the Western New York Flash.
The Flash open with four of their first six matches at home but then have a 10 game stretch through June when they are on the road for eight matches.
The good news is Abby and company will close their season in August with five of its final six matches at home including their last three. Two of those matches do fall during the week of the PGA Championship being held at Oak Hill. The Portland game featuring fan favorite Alex Morgan and Christine Sinclair is Saturday august 10, the third round of the PGA.
But Sahlen's Stadium GM Pat Ercoli says while the timing is unfortunate, he believes the caliber of players will attract the fans.
Pat Ercoli, General Manager of Sahlen's Stadium, said, “There's a period where they play three times in five days, you would like more time in between games, but when you consider where they were in November to where they are now it's exciting. I think there's a fan base that will come at all times you may not have the fringe people but I think when you bring in Alex Morgan they have a stable of players that will get attention even if the PGA is here.”
Ercoli says the schedule would normally have been released by December, but due to the league being formed, the schedule came out late, and that means prime dates at many stadiums are already taken. Single game tickets are expected to go on sale by the beginning of March.
