News10NBC has learned new information about a homicide arrest made Thursday morning.
Marcellus Timmons, 23 of Rochester, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 52-year-old Todd Davidson.
Rochester Police Chief James Sheppard says the community came forward with information and that is what led to a quick arrest.
The murder happened inside the victim’s apartment on Tacoma Street. Police were called there around 8:30 a.m. Thursday.
The chief says Timmons was visiting Davidson, there was an argument and Davidson suffered significant trauma to his upper body.
Chief James Sheppard wouldn’t give specifics on how Davidon was killed but did say a screwdriver was used a weapon.
We also learned that the victim and suspect knew each other. Sheppard says their relationship might have been romantic. He says observant neighbors made the difference in this case. “A neighbor called us. Based on the fact that they saw what they thought was a burglary in progress that brought our officers there. As a result of finding the body, that expanded our investigation. The information that was given to us was significant in that it did lead to the person that we did subsequently arrest.”
The Medical Examiner is looking into the cause of death.
