The Pentagon will lay out a plan to furlough more than 700,000 people, if spending cuts aren't averted by March 1.
Pentagon officials will present their plan to congress on Wednesday. If those cuts, known as sequestration, kick in, employees from the defense department would be required to take one day off per week without pay, which would be equal to taking a 20-percent pay cut.
Those changes would go into effect April 22.
Congresswoman Louise Slaughter will be in Rochester on Wednesday, to talk about what she and the other Washington Democrats are doing to prevent those spending cuts from happening.
Slaughter will hold a news conference later Wednesday morning at the Federal Building. She says she's concerned about the cuts to domestic and defense spending, in the amount of at least $1.2 trillion and she says the cuts could result in the loss of more than two million jobs nationwide.
News10NBC will be speaking with Congresswoman Slaughter and will bring you updates from her on News10NBC at 5 and 6.
