A Brockport teen is the winner of this year's Alaskan Junior Iditarod sled dog race.
Noah Pereira, 16, finished first on Sunday. The race was a two day event across 140 miles in the Alaskan wilderness.
Pereira beat out last year's champion by four minutes and is one of only six rookies to ever win.
News10NBC talked to Pereira on the phone Sunday night about how close that race was.
“We were fighting it out through the last probably 50 miles. We were within a minute of each other. I got lucky. I got the upper hand on him in the last 10 miles and just pushed my way to the finish line. It was the best feeling in the world ,” he said.
For winning the Junior Iditarod Race, Pereira will receive a brand new sled and a $5,000 scholarship.
