Some young Girl Scouts in Irondequoit spent Saturday serving up some free lunch and helping out a good cause at the same time.

"Created for Children" is a girl-led service project to collect books and supplies for the Irondequoit-based Stepping Stones Learning Center.

People were asked to bring new or used childrens books, school supplies and backpacks to donate.

The event also featured free pizza from 2 Ton Tony's as well as crafts, prizes and other fun.

“To have the community involved and be able to make sure they have the books they need and the school supplies they need has been very beneficial, because that way we can be sure we're doing everything to make sure the kids can do the best they can,” said Mary Ellen Cupini, the founder of Stepping Stones Learning Center.

If you'd like to donate you can drop off any donations at the I-Square Visions art gallery on Titus Avenue anytime this month.
