Americans spend $53-billion a year on pets

Americans spend nearly $53-billion a year on their pets, according to the American Pet Products Association.
 
Four billion of that went to grooming and boarding last year -- one reason the APPA cites boarding facilities as one of the fastest-growing areas of the pet industry.
 
More than 46-million U.S. households own a dog while more than 38-million have cats.
