In three months, it will be a little warmer in Rochester and bikers will be putting their pedals in motion, riding and raising money to find a cure for diabetes.
The American Diabetes Association hosted a kick-off for the "Tour de Cure" fundraiser at the Harro East Ballroom. Organizers say last year's ride raised almost $900,000. This year, they are hoping to raise $1 million.
Travis Heider, Executive Director Upstate NY at American Diabetes Association, said, "What we're doing in the Rochester community to participate in a healthy activity to raise money to find a cure for diabetes is amazing."
The money raised in this event goes toward advocacy and education efforts. It also goes toward research, some of which is done at the University of Rochester.
