Newark High School seniors Brandi and Brynn Lauer may not be identical, but they compliment each other perfectly. Brandi is ranked third in her class and Brynn will likely be first or second.

Brynn Lauer, News10NBC's Scholar Athlete, said, “My parents from an early age knew that academics was going to make me successful, so it's something I wanted to work at. Competition is big when you have a sister, you compete with your twin to have a better grade.”

Brandi Lauer, News10NBC's Scholar Athlete, said. “I don't like English, more math and science. We help with calculus and those problems. We work together. It's easier when you have a twin.”

They take all the same classes except for one. Both are active in school clubs and government. Brandi plans to study biology at Gettysburg in hopes of becoming a veterinarian. Brynn is headed to the University of Rochester to be an engineer. Both have loved and played sports since grade school.

Brandi said, “I think it's team sports. The whole team has to do well. It's not an individual sport.”

Brynn said, “Our dad is a basketball coach. We've been around basketball since we were little.”

While the sisters excel at soccer and basketball, Brandi chose soccer for college and Brynn chose basketball. Both are captains. Brynn suffered a knee injury and has missed her senior seasons. It hurt Brandi more watching her sister have to sit on the sidelines.

Brandi said, “I'm more emotional. We tried to play for her.”

Both racked up awards and accolades for both sports. Their work ethic on and off the court is unmatched. In the fall, they will part ways for college, but it's hard to image these two will ever be far apart.

Brandi said, “It will be hard, but it has to happen.”

Brynn said, “I don't know any different, so it means sometimes I would rather not have a twin. But I love having a twin and I wouldn't change it for the world.”
