A student was seriously injured after he fell off a car driven by his friend early Saturday morning.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office tells News10NBC the incident happened on the RIT campus around 12:15 a.m. Saturday morning. Deputies say 22-year-old Steven Sapp, of Newark, suffered life-threatening injuries after he jumped onto his friend's moving car. Investigators say his friend continued to drive for about 25 feet and then attempted to turn his vehicle. That's when Sapp fell off.

RIT officials tell News10NBC that Sapp is currently a student at the university.

Sapp suffered a serious head injury and is currently listed in guarded condition at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Investigators say the driver of the vehicle was not intoxicated and no charges have been filed at this time.
