It was a celebration fit for a king! Or in this case, several kings. The Bishop Kearney Kings held a rally Tuesday after winning two state basketball championships.

It's the first time in Section V history that a boys and girls team from the same school has won state championships in the same sport. It was a proud day for the students at Bishop Kearney High School.

The gym was loud, and packed with students, family,  alumni and Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks who all joined in  honoring the players and coaches from the boys and girls teams, crowned the best in the state after both teams won state championships in Glens Falls two weekends ago.

The state championship banners were unveiled. This is the first time the girls have won a state title. It is the second for the boys team who also unveiled their 2009 state title banner that will also now hang in the gym.

The girls team with just one senior. The boys team, considered to have one of the toughest front courts in the region, both stumbled early in their seasons, but persevered..

Boys' team captain Antwoine Anderson announcing at the rally that he has received a full ride to Division I Fordham University, made it an even more festive event. A true celebration for both teams, their coaches and the school.

Bishop Kearney is the first school in Section V to win dual basketball titles and the only the second school to do so in the  state. Mt. Vernon did it in 1981.
