Mayor Tom Richards paid a special visit to a group a volunteers this morning who are donating their time to make free home repairs for residents in need.
The workers are members of the Flower City Work Camp -- a faith-based organization made up of more than 40 churches throughout Monroe County.
Hundreds of young people and adults come together each year during spring recess to work on home improvements and make repairs for people who aren't able to do it themselves.
The volunteers say this also gives them a chance to reach out to people they wouldn't normally connect with. Josh Merrill said, “I am able to come into houses that I am normally not able to and help the students learn more about God and especially the homeowners reach out to them and teach them about god and the love of God."
The City helps select qualified homeowners for this program and provides smoke detector inspections as well as extra trash removal for the work sites.
