Senator Chuck Schumer is urging a national airline to increase the availability of flights and seats to Atlanta from Rochester. Schumer petitioned the CEO of Delta Airlines to increase the amount of access that Rochester flyers have to non-stop flights into Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Schumer argued Thursday that after AirTran, the only other airline with non-stop service to Atlanta, merges with Southwest Airlines, a hundred passengers a day or more would be displaced. AirTran is expected to drop its non-stop service from Rochester to Atlanta on April 14.
Schumer called on Delta Airlines, which currently has three daily flights from Rochester to Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport, to add more flights or more capacity to the route. In a statement, Senator Schumer said, " Because Delta is the largest airline at the Rochester airport and already provides quality service between Rochester and Atlanta they would be the ideal airline to fill the void left by AirTran."
In a letter to Delta CEO Richard H. Anderson, Senator Schumer said that providing additional flights and seats would be a "win-win" situation; bringing more business to Delta and more business to Rochester.
