Three Allegany County men have been rescued from the icy, choppy water of Lake Ontario after their fishing boat capsized about four miles from the mouth of the Niagara River in Niagara County.
U.S. and Canadian Coast Guard crews rescued the two 51-year-old men and one 61-year-old man from 37-degree water late Saturday afternoon. The rescuers arrived 45 minutes after the men called 911 to say their 19-foot boat was encountering heavy waves and filling with water. The men huddled on the overturned vessel to await the rescuers.
The boat, a Crestliner, later sank and was not recovered.
