The city of Rochester says it wants to close the Center at High Falls.

The center houses a gift shop, museum and art gallery. Right now, Mayor Tom Richards says the city is paying about $185,000 to run it. He says the building is under utilized and feels the money used to keep it running would be better spent elsewhere.

Rochester Mayor Tom Richards said, “The city needs to think about how it spends $185,000. Would it be better for the city to take the money and put it in a recreation center that it would be in this particular facility which is under utilized. That's the question we have to face.”

The mayor says the center was created with the visualization that High Falls would serve as an entertainment district. He says the city is working with the state to resolve some restrictions that it has based on original funding for the project.
