Brighton senior Casey Kopp credits his dad with why he is so motivated in school.
Casey Kopp, News10NBC Scholar Athlete of the Week, said, “My dad works 60 hours, comes home tired, but he's willing to have fun. He coaches so I take that from him.”
Casey carries a 3.9 average and has taken six AP's. He has been accepted to Hamilton College.
Kopp said, “I want to major in economics at Hamilton, but I can take pre-med, so I have that option as well.”
Casey is a two-time sectional soccer champ.
Kopp said, “The last two years have been phenomenal.”
He has played soccer since kindergarten, but lacrosse is his love. He will play lacrosse at Hamilton. He says he's had a stick in his hand since he was three.
Kopp said, “ I was in the yard cradling with my father, our whole family has been filled with lacrosse, it's been part of my family.”
As a junior when high school challenges may be at their most difficult, Casey's love of the sport took a tragic turn. His 12-year-old brother, Tyler, was killed after being hit with a lacrosse ball during a routine practice. Casey didn't turn away from school or his sport. He worked even harder.
Kopp said, “It taught me the importance of family and if I need to be close to family, I will be. It taught me the value of life and family and friends.”
