Main Street in Rochester is going to turn into Hollywood Boulevard next week. Shooting for the Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie starts on Tuesday and it is going to affect your daily routine if you drive or walk downtown.
Broad Street will be the new Main Street next week because all of the traffic from Main Street including RTS buses, school buses and just regular traffic gets rerouted onto Broad Street.
The city's spokesman said downtown is going to be normal except there will be a 70 mile an hour car chase down Main Street every once in a while. He says Main Street between Exchange Blvd. and Clinton Avenue will be closed for 10 days, but it's not going to be locked down like Fort Drum. You will be able to cross the street in between shots.
News10NBC got a look at some of the yellow cabs and a police cars that will be in the chase scene. The mayor is excited about this, but he wants everyone to be flexible and patient.
Rochester Mayor Tom Richards said, “So that's the attitude we have to approach this with, right folks? it's going to be a good time. It's exciting. It's a unique event for us and it's a great opportunity for us. Now it might be a little inconvenient but you know you can't have a good time if you're not going to put up with a little inconvenience.”
Everyday, the city is going to put out a map showing what streets are closed and what streets have limited access.
