We are just a couple of days away from the filming of a major motion picture right here in the city of Rochester.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will begin filming a chase scene on Tuesday.
News10NBC wanted to know how the city is preparing its big screen debut and what the road closures mean for businesses there.
The production crew is here, the stunt cars are sitting in a parking lot downtown ready to go and if you were on Main Street in Rochester on Sunday and paying close attention you may have noticed a few things were different.
“We came downtown to see if we could see any production happening and see if anyone was setting anything up,” said Rochester resident Kevin Lamark.
It may not look like it now, but in 48 hours Main Street will be transformed in the backdrop for a high speed chase for the upcoming movie.
Lamark is a film professor at RIT and says you can see little ways the city is already getting ready.
“We noticed the street signs are gone and saw some production crews walking around scooping the place out,” said Lamark.
The production crew wouldn't talk on camera, but did say they are checking out the area for this week's shoots, and that they plan to do a rehearsal on Monday.
You can also see a number of the cars that will be used in the scene across from the Public Safety Building downtown.
Part of Main Street will be closed for the filming. News10NBC asked what that means for the businesses along the stretch.
“The production company has now had contact with all the businesses on Main Street and offered to help them out. So if they are going to be hurt by this they have offered to help them out,” said Rochester Mayor Tom Richards.
“I'm sure some people will be inconvenienced, but we are very excited for us to be in the spotlight in this manner, a major motion picture coming to Rochester, it really puts us on the map. So we're very proud, we're very pleased and we're looking forward to assisting them in this production,” said Rochester Police Chief James Sheppard.
Lamark says this major motion picture could open up Rochester to future projects.
“From what we've been able to find out, everything has gone really smoothly so hopefully this will help out with future productions coming here. People are going to see that Rochester is a very open town to doing these kind of things,” said Lamark.
The filming will be closing down some roads. Here at News10NBC we will show you the changes to street closings every night to help you navigate downtown the next day.
For anyone that rides RTS and students that transfer downtown, those routes will be changing.
The Amazing Spiderman 2 movie is set to come out in May of 2014.
