A Bornean orangutan was born early Monday morning at the Seneca Park Zoo.
This is the first child for the mother, Kumang, and father, Denda. Kumang has already given birth to three other children.
"This is a significant birth for the Bornean orangutan species," said Larry Sorel, County Zoo Director. "Bornean orangutans are considered endangered, so each baby born is critical to the survival of the species. Because Kumang is a proven mother, we have every reason to believe she will guide her family through a successful child-rearing process."
The baby orangutan has not been named at this time.
