Federal officials say New York's flower growing industry saw business decline slightly in 2012, with the state ranked ninth in the nation for commercial sales in 2012.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture says the number of growers with sales more than $10,000 dropped from 615 to 577 last year. They generated $169 million in sales, with $102 million of that in bedding and garden plants. Potted flowers accounted for $26.6 million and materials for propagation $21.1 million.
The state's crop covered 25.2 million square feet. That compared to 25.3 million square feet in 2011.
