A popular waterway is officially open for business.
The Canal Corporation celebrated the 189th opening fore the New York State Canal system at the "Low Bridge, High Water" festival in Brockport Saturday.
Officials say this season will feature a lot of exciting events like "Cycle the Erie Canal," a trip from one end of the canal to the other, and the always popular "Canal Splash" and "Fairport Canal Days."
"Today, Brockport may no longer be where the canal ends, but it is certainly where the fun begins and the beauty begins for another great season along America's most-storied waterway," said Brian Stratton, Director for the NYS Canal Corporation.
The canal system generates close to $30-million dollars annually for the state through tourism and recreational activities.
